HEISIG KANA PDF
I wanted to take my first step and learn the kana. Kana are the two syllable based Japanese writing systems, the hiragana and the katakana. I’m sorry if this is a stupid question, but I’m new to the sub. Has anyone used this booklet before? Is it effective? I’m currently using memrise. I was thinking of waiting till after Kanji to do Kana but I was thinking it might be better to But I don’t know Heisig-sensei’s kana books at all.

The basic primitives are introduced as needed throughout the book.
Even though some of the imagery, supposedly easy to imagine, make sense some of the time, I found myself more often than not creating other ways to remember. I find it kind of wasteful to only buy a book to just use once for a short while, so I borrowed it from the library.

Apr 07, Doug rated it it was ok. Now admittedly this is in line with my whole philosophy of learning Japanese by using itbut even if one wasn’t using our overall approach I would strongly recommend this.
Or, you can take a week, or a month. Great method of associating the Japanese kana to things that an adult can remember, rather than forcing it through brute force. There is no attention given to the readings of the kanji as Heisig believes yeisig one should learn the writing and meaning first before moving on to the readings in Volume II.

But I can conceive the possibility that this could create some friction. Actually, even though I am a bit notorious for saying you don’t necessarily need to write kanjiI did learn kana in conjunction with writing them and, unlike Koichi-san whom I respect I do think it is a good idea to do so.
So why exactly would one learn the kana and then spend the next several moths learning or however many kanji without a single readingthus having no use at all for the kana one has just learned. The only problem I see is that he could occasionally have some confusion between kanji and kana while learning them in parallel.

Like read sing along as the song plays. The latter is the Japanese name for our western alphabet. If you follow the directions and really visualize each little story around each character, it’ll stick. I write everything down even with reviewing mature cards with the Anki. Also the order of RTK builds up from a base, I’d assume Kanji in textbooks are present in order of word usefulness regardless of complexity. I always recommend starting to use the kana immediately after learning them.
