This said though, the book is still very enjoyable, and full of page turning scenes and ideas and does in the end leave the reader wanting to reach for a copy of Sir Thursday.

Agrth the components that made the previous books good are still there, however they don’t seem to gel together the same, leaving the book feeling like a series of great scenes held together with padding. It’s worth noting that Garth Nix, in my experience at least, doesn’t have problems with writing excellent middle books – it’s where most series fail, but here it’s clear that Nix is just hitting his stride with these books.

There is also the Raised Rats, a double crossing pirate team that helps Arthur in his voyage.

Also I liked at the end that view spoiler [he finally did not give up the key to Dame Primus hide spoiler ]. So I really enjoyed this part of the keys to the kingdom series, it had a fair few chuckle worthy scenes in it that made me want to keep on reading. Crowned a stand alone, Drowned Wednesday would be excellent, but when read after Mister Monday and Grim Tuesday, the book may not quite make the readers expectations.
