If you’ve gotten to the dragon cutting scene through you’ve dealt with the worst of it now I think. When a crime is committed, he is forced to flee and he returns to the city where his talent for “reading corpses” eventually leads him to the Emperor himself. And that’s the triumph of this fiction-from-fact, that who killed the corpses Ci reads becomes much less important than finding out how Ci will discover the truth.

There’s enough mystery, intrigue, and suspense to keep readers guessing until the end. Can he solve the mystery?

Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Based on the description, I really thought I would, too. There are plot twists that are clear to the astute reader, but the level of interest remains high throughout.

Like a Chinese Movie I really enjoy those Chinese movies that focus on a historic theme and then tell a fantastical story. Ci is the type of character that we want to just given some sort of break.

Definitely appreciated having a gay character, though. Sadly our main character fell into the “bland” category, despite all the attempts to make him interesting and special without making him too perfect to relate.

After reading this it leads me to wonder what my corpse will say Literally everything in this dude’s life that could h I found this book in a bargain bin and thought it sounded interesting.

Antonio Garrido does a great job with this novel. I read a lot of historical fiction so it’s not a problem that’s specific to Garrido, but to a lot of authors where they are giving us readers a lot of information thankfully and it reads as a text book instead of a novel unfolding. There is a serial killer who is killing and mutilating within the circle of even the Emperor himself and Song finds himself in a race to find cadavres killer or be executed.

There Another book I expected to really enjoy, but ended up disliking. The moon shines in front of the bed. Readers have no clue what most of the characters are thinking, so we have no idea why lecfor take the actions they do. Set within such a restrictive society, the young student has few opportunities and fewer lucky breaks. Based on the life of Ci Song, the world’s le forensic scientist, this is a historical mystery set in 13th century China.

Second, the writing was did nothing for me.

That’s what I wanted to read about! Jun 02, Hiroto rated it it was ok Shelves: Women were working along, oftentimes without recognition and preparing the way for greats like Hildegard Von Bingen in the ninth century.

Especially since Ci didn’t seem to care about his sexuality after the first shock moment. He’s definitely the one character I will remember best. The book starts out with Ci Song as a scholar who is supported by his grandfather who is a noted scholar.

The Corpse Reader

I wa Everyone seems to love this book on Goodreads. I usually LOVE historical fiction and I’m fascinated by the history of science and medicine as well, but this one’s not really living up to the description.

Now I’m just glad I found it in a bargain bin, because otherwise I’d probably be a lot more disappointed.
