This book seemed more dark in nature, a lot more of a serious book. Unlike in the first book, which actually portrayed Sonja as a somewhat complex character, in this book she is, as bruin trouble brilliantly pointed out, “the sum of her spastic limbs.
Apr 07, Morag rated it it was amazing. Free and proud, soaring and beautiful! However, I enjoyed it, mostly because I can’t help but root for Cadel, who’s trying to be a good person, despite literally being raised to be an evil genius. At the beginning, he’s living a mostly restricted life.
Catherine Jinks is the Australian author of more than thirty books for all ages. Genius Squad is the sequel to Evil Genius. He learns to become compassionate because of her and to think of others. Catherine Jinks describes the nuances of hacking without getting bogged down in overly technical details, and displays a very good grasp on the field.
The characters were lovable and I couldn’t wait for the next book. Saul gets a group of police officers down to the airport in time to save Cadel, but Prosper manages to get away.

Less villain and more ‘I don’t want to upset the adults’ in this book, definitely, which is a bit disappointing for me personally. The events unfolded in the book had many twists and turns that made me breathless in anticipation for what would happen next.
The technology gave a lot of depth to how Proctor was trying to get to Cadel and how Cadel was trying to work out what was going on. Darkkon who has died in prison.
With no school to attend due to his questionable legal status, Cadel spends his time either on the computer, idling or visiting Sonja. What sells me on this book is really Cadel’s relationship with Fiona his social worker and Saul Greenius a policeman who takes an interest in Cadel. He only had so many options, given his situation, but when he was stuck in an adult-enforced situation, he just tended to mope or whine instead of getting himself out of the situation. Cadel is now in foster care with Prosper English safely behind bars.
I liked how he became so attached to Cadel and always felt frustrated at Fiona for doubting his motivations but then secretly admitting to Cadel that he appreciated how she was so dedicated to ensuring Cadel’s cztherine being. Yenius meat of the story, though, revolves around the Genius Squad. While I’m not one for endless technobabble, having a book about a “genius cathherine that never lives up to the name is disappointing. It’s just a general trend of the massive amount of events that occur in these books. I love the dynamic between Sonja and Cadel. Another budding romance that I love is the one between Saul Greeniaus the detective and Fiona Currey Cadel’s social worker.
It really seemed made up, and badly. Everyone else believes it to be accommodation for hard done by kids while in reality it is a cover for bringing together genius kids to take down an organisation. Prosper is every bit as cunning and conniving and it is a marvel to see how he had planned everything all along!
Will Genius Squad sqhad the answer to all Cadel’s prayers? Sadly, not so much. He may want to do small acts of revenge. I won’t go into all the specifics, but this genius squad does add some suspense and mystery to the plot.
