The Need of Now

I was chatting this morning with a young lady I mentor – an amazing artist, by the way – who had just bought a one-way ticket to Europe and was going through all of the emotions that comes with a move like that.

Fear. Excitement. Worry. Curiosity. Fear. Fear. Excitement. And fear.

Of course it’s scary, I would tell her. It’s supposed to be. I remember back in 1999 when I sold everything and bought the same one-way ticket. I didn’t sleep the entire flight from Austin to London. Barely ate a thing. But when that plane banked over the Tower Bridge [not – underlined – the London Bridge; an old American once got them mixed up and paid dearly!] and then it all went away. Everything. All of it. I was exactly where I was supposed to be.

That was almost 2 decades ago and I’ve been fortunate to see a lot of things.

But this isn’t about me, it’s about what I learned. And what I want to pass on to you. If you’re on iPi, then you have a deliciously curious heart and mind. Maybe there’s something out there that has been begging you to understand it. Maybe there’s too many things here that you understand all too well. Maybe you just want to smell foods that you can’t even pronounce.

And this is what I would pass on: Do. Not. Wait. Do not wait one more minute wondering about those things. There is a great big beautiful world out there just itching to have you walk through it. There are memories waiting to be made in cities you didn’t even know existed. There’s a cab driver who won’t know a word of English who will teach you more than anyone ever did. There’s a spicy snack that’ll have you throwing up in a weird alley while laughing at the same time.

There is beauty. It might be hidden behind a lot of drama these days, but it’s there. And it ain’t gonna come to you.

So go get it.

We got your back.
